THE ADMELLA ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Interest in observing the 150th Anniversary of the Wreck of the Admella commenced with the nomination of the idea by the Hon. Rory McEwen MP in November 2001. The District Council of Grant, and the Port MacDonnell and District Maritime Museum Inc, supported the commemoration of the event.

A working party was established to plan for the commemoration and develop a strategic plan to maximise the ability of the region to highlight the significance of the event.  The District Council of Grant has since formed the Admella Commemoration Advisory Committee with aims that include:

  • to plan coordinate and undertake activities to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Wreck of the Admella
  • to liaise with local groups to ensure that all organised events are coordinated across the border
  • to promote and encourage community interest and involvement in planning for the commemoration and associated events

Representatives from the following bodies have joined the committee:

  • District Council of Grant
  • City of Mount Gambier
  • Limestone Coast Tourism
  • Glenelg Shire - Victoria
  • Port MacDonnell and District Maritime Museum Inc.
  • Carpenters Rocks Progress Association
  • Port MacDonnell Tourist Association
  • Wattle Range Council
  • Kingston District Council
